Is Dragon Age Worth the Money?

Dragon age is a role-playing game developed and released by Bioware, a division of EA.
Do you think it's worth your money?
Dragon age tells the story of a certain group called the "Grey Wardens". They are the protectors of humanity against the blight but let's start from the beginning. The story takes place in a country called Ferelden which is a part of the world known as Thedas. this world is inhabited by Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Qunari and DarkSpawn.
Humans are divided into countries and groups just like our own society. The most prominent Human areas in Dragon Age are Orlais, Ferelden, The Tevinter Imperium and the Free Marches. Other areas are mentioned as well but not as importantly. Orlais is mentioned because of the Chantry which is the religious faction in the game. In orlais sits Divine Justinia which is the sort of Supreme ruler of the chantry. The chantry believes in the maker who is Thedas' god. The Divine is believed to be favored by the maker. The chantry was founded after a 'prophet' called andraste, fought with the Tevinter imperium which is an empire controlled by mages who are abusing magic to their own ends. Other prominent factions in humans are the Mages and Templars. Mages are individuals who are born with magic and Templars are 'ungifted' individuals sworn to protect the world from it. Templars work as the sword of The Chantry. Mages are 'imprisoned' in Circles around the world where they study their art and are being watched by the Templars.
Elves are divided into city elves and Dalish elves. City elves are sort the kind of elves who have "given up" on their heritage and decided to become a part of Human cities, there they reside within "ghettos" known as Alienages. The other part of Elves are Dalish elves who see themselves as the true 'elvhen'. they span the globe in tribes, never staying in one place for long and each of them has a keeper which is a dalish mage who is tasked with archiving and the continued remembrence of their old lineage.
Dwarves live in the Deep Roads. They too have some factions. the Dwarves live in the city of Orzammar. The city itself is divided to quarters and each quarter is home to a different faction. Dust Town is home to 'dusters' which are people who are without a caste. Caste is kind of a title. a child in Orzammar inherits the title of his parent of same sex. it can be of the warrior caste, blacksmith caste and the Noble caste. the Warrior caste and Blacksmith caste are considered commoners while the Noble caste is the Nobility. Commoners and Nobles are divided into family houses in Orzammar. Most have a representative in the Assembly which is kind of their government meeting. there the Noble houses and the Royal house sit to make decisions regarding Orzammar. Most of the time it would end in shouts. The King or Orzammar rules the city but The Assembly is crucial to the king's rule.
Qunari are tall creatures, they are humanoid-like with a grey skin and horns coming out of their foreheads. They are not the kind you'll see everyday because they tend to keep to themselves but they do have a reputation of conquerors and hostile creatures. Qunari believe that everyone is born into their role and they can only choose to be(that role) or to die. they do not believe in gods but they do believe in some sort of "rules" collection called The Qun. they believe abiding by the qun gives them certainty while not believing in the Qun results in death. It is recently revealed in Dragon Age 2 that they believe that Mages are dangerous and should always be contained watched of killed in separated from their group.
All of this up until now seems like a very boring collection of lore on the game no? Well now we start to talk about the villain of the game - The Darkspawn.
What are the Darkspawn? no one really knows for a fact how they came to be. The chantry claims that the darkspawn is the punishment of the maker for trying to usurp his Golden City. The tevinter mages thought to enter the Fade, the realm of magic, demons, spirits and the maker, in order to seize control of the Golden city. By doing so they tainted the pure city and it became the Black city. in return the Maker punished those mages transforming them into the first darkspawn and banished them back to our world. There is a horrifying way the darkspawn use to increase their numbers but I won't spoil it for you.
So, let's go all the way back to our initial question. What's a blight? The tevinter imperium once believed in the old gods whom are actually intelligent dragons. A blight is the event where a darkspawn digs the earth far and wide and eventually finds and taints an old god. than the tainted old god rallies the darkspawn horde and starts to advance towards the living and exterminate them. The grey wardens exist as warriors in order to fight blights.
Does this game worth the money? I definitely think so. Personally I have played it for over 5 times. one of the best things about this game is its origin stories each character you make has is own story chosen by who are what you are. and the game responds to that origin throughout the game. you will meet funny characters, amazing places and exciting stories. Also, Dragon Age has lots of downloadable content which adds areas, characters and more story to the game. What's more, if you have heard about Dragon Age II, you probably know that you can import your saved data into the game and your decisions will be reflected in the world.
Good Luck!
