ASUS Transformer Tablet Vs Galaxy Tab 10.1


Lately, Android has updated its OS to Honeycomb 3.2 which enables a powerful web browsing experience for those who own Android tablets.
Two of the most admired Android tablets, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, have proven themselves to be of high-level performance tablets. But which should you prefer? Comparing both these tablets according to their specifications, functionality and performance will indicate which tablet has the upper hand.
Their Similarities:
1. Software
The ASUS Transformer recently updated its OS to Android's Honeycomb 3.2. Currently, the Galaxy 10.1 still runs with Honeycomb 3.1, but it may just receive a similar upgrade. With the new Honeycomb 3.2, both will still run with the same OS capabilities.
2. Processor
Both the Transformer and the Galaxy have the same 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. This means that both tablet PCs are fast and responsive.
3. Storage
The ASUS Transformer has 1GB worth of RAM, and an internal storage of 16 GB and 32GB, with an additional micro SD card slot to increase storage capability. The Galaxy also has a 1GB RAM, an internal storage of 16GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, and a built-in SD card slot for storage expansion.
Their Differences:
1. Display
The ASUS Transformer has a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen with a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. It also has an impressive IPS panel display. The Galaxy has the same multi-touch screen display, resolution, and TFT-LCD panel display
2. Camera
The Transformer has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and another 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. The Galaxy also sports two cameras: 3 megapixels on the rear, and 2 megapixels on the front.
3. Connectivity
The Transformer has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, along with a mini HDMI port and GPS technology. Two full-sized USB port are available only on the keyboard dock. The Galaxy has Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS technologies. It is also capable of using the Stereo FM feature with RDS, but the Galaxy has no USB port. A USB adapter, however, can be purchased separately for USB connections.
4. Video Recording
Both the Transformer and Galaxy have a brilliant 720 HD video recording capability. The Galaxy also has a 720 HD video recording capability and 1080MP video playback.
5. Portability
The Transformer has dimensions of 271 x 171 x 13mm and weighs 680 grams. The Galaxy has smaller dimensions of 256.2 x 172.9 x 8.6 and weighs only 595 grams. The Galaxy is considerably lighter than the Transformer.
6. Battery Life
The Transformer has an expected battery life of up to 10 hours, but it can last up to 16 hours if it is attached to the keyboard dock. The battery life of the Galaxy 10.1can reach up to only 9 hours.
7. Price
The Transformer is priced at $399 for the 16GB version, and $499 for the 32GB version. With the detachable keyboard dock, it will cost $150 more. The Galaxy costs $499 for the 16GB version, and $599 for the 32 GB version.
The Verdict
Based on the technical specifications mentioned above including the pricing, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer scores a few points higher than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Galaxy Tab is not a bad choice, but if you prefer better performance worth the cost, you could do more with the Transformer.
