ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Vs Toshiba Thrive

The new ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has a special weapon, the keyboard dock which can add power to its battery life. The Toshiba Thrive has a remarkable one-of-a-kind removable battery which enables its power source to be recharged with another spare battery. To find out which is better, these are the specifications each tablet has to boast:
The Similarities:
1. Software
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has just received recent over-the-air update with Android's new OS, the Honeycomb 3.2, which delivers a more significant UI experience, a faster web browsing, recent apps menu, customizable widgets and improved e-mail, calendar and gallery apps. The Toshiba Thrive can also be updated with the same OS.
2. Display
The ASUS Transformer has a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen, a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and an IPS panel display which the Thrive also sports. Both tablet PCs have more or less the same screen size, resolution and display settings.
3. Processor
Both the Transformer and the Thrive are equipped with an impressive 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. Any tablet PC with a dual core processor promises high-speed features.
4. Connectivity
The ASUS Transformer has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as mini HDMI ports and GPS technology. The two useful USB ports are available only on the keyboard dock. The Thrive also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, along with HDMI and USB ports.
5. Memory
The ASUS Transformer has 1GB worth of RAM, and an internal storage of 16GB or 32GB with micro SD card slot for storage expansion. The Thrive also has 1GB worth of RAM, but with only 16GB of internal storage. However, it has a SD card slot which can support up to 128 GB storage size.
The Differences:
1. Web Browser
Both the ASUS Transformer and the Thrive tablets offer a smooth browser with great speed. They are also capable of displaying Flash content, but the Thrive has an excellent and better File Manager app, which allows users to access the internal memory much easier and faster.
2. Camera
The ASUS Transformer has 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. The Thrive boasts of a better set of camera: a 2-megapixel one in the front, and a 5-megapixel one in the rear.
3. Video Recording
The ASUS Transformer has an excellent 720 HD video recording capability, while the Toshiba Thrive only has a standard definition video recording.
4. Portability
The ASUS Transformer has a dimension of 271 x 171 x 13mm, and weighs around 680 grams. The Thrive has a bigger dimension of 272 x 175 x 15mm, and weighs much heavier at 771 grams.
5. Battery Life
The ASUS Transformer has a battery life of up to 10 hours, but you can use it for up to 16 hours with the keyboard dock. The Toshiba Thrive has a battery life of up to 8 hours. It also has a removable battery.
6. Pricing
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is priced at $399 if you buy one with a 16GB worth of RAM. The optional keyboard dock will cost an additional $150. The Toshiba Thrive costs $429 for the whole thing.
The Verdict:
Although the Toshiba Thrive has a better camera and a faster web browser, these specifications really have no big difference. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is a notch higher than the Thrive since it is a more versatile but less expensive tablet that delivers an equally excellent performance.
