Asus 1015PN Review

The 10.1-inch Asus 1015PN is one of the powerful netbooks in the market. The netbook packs a dual-core Atom N550 processor and ION 2 GPU which means that this netbook packs some serious power. The netbook can easily handle HD and full-HD videos, but viewing them on a WSVGA display is pretty much pointless. This is because you would not be really able to see the difference.
1015PN comes with 6-cell battery (56Whr), Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, 250GB hard disk drive and 1GB of DDR3 RAM. It has a 0.3 mega pixel webcam as well. The netbook looks just like other Asus' seashell netbooks, but it comes with a matte display - something you generally do not find in netbooks these days. Also, you will find an HDMI port on the netbook that lets you output high definition video, audio and graphics to an external display.
It features a chiclet keyboard and has small right shift key which makes room for an extra Fn key and arrow keys. This Asus netbook runs Windows 7 Starter that does not allow it to use the Nvidia's Optimus technology. This implies that in order to toggle between the Intel graphics and ION GPU, you will have to restart the netbook.
Asus 1015PN scored 1500 points in the 3DMark06 test which is almost double than the single core Atom netbooks. It also managed to get 3.1 and 3.7 in WEI and Graphics respectively. Battery was around 5.5 hours with typical web surfing. But, if you are planning to use it to watch HD videos, do not expect it to yield more than 4 hours.
Bottom Line - If you after performance in a 10.1-inch netbook form factor, this is the one to get.
